Hi, what´s the weather like in Baltimore this winter? John Allen: Pretty effin COLD!!! We just played outside in 12 degree weather (thats fahrenheit!)
I know you used to be in SR 71 but can you tell me a little about the other guys in Charm City Devils? John Allen: I have a couple of guys from the Washington, DC area: Anthony Arambula on Bass and Vic Karrera on Guitar, Jason Heiser on drums and Nick Kay on guitar are from Baltimore. Great guys and longtime friends!
You used to be called Forty Acres, is it true that it was Nikki Sixx that came up with the new name? John Allen: Yeah, We were beating our brains in trying to come up with a name and he thought of it and I said YEAH! Thats it!
Have you recorded the album yet? John Allen: Yep, its all done!
How come bands today don´t have the same longevity as many classic rock bands from the 70´s like Aerosmith or Kiss for example? John Allen: I have nooo idea. It is probably a lot more complicated than a singer in a rock band can figure out! One thing I can tell you is, that the world is moving pretty fast these days and people have so many places to look for entertainment that its as easy as the click of a mouse to get something new (if you want that) !
There were hardly any good time rocknroll during the entire 90´s, but it´s coming back stronger than ever. Do you think people want the fun back in rocknroll? John Allen: Yeah, I think so... Kids are hearing about the crazy stuff that went on and want some of that for themselves.
Your new single "Let´s rocknroll" is a true party rocker, but are there any ballads in your set or are you a full blooded rock band? John Allen: Our live set had never had ballads in it until we finished the record. So yeah, it will have a song that is mid-tempo but I dont think its a ballad ballad. Ya know what I mean and one that is a true ballad. That one is about my mothers battle with Breast Cancer. That song is fairly heavy lyrically, as you can imagine... What were you saying about "fun" HA! Sorry to bring the room down!
What album has made the biggest impact on the revolution of rocknroll you think? John Allen: I dont know, there are many I think. Guns N Roses 1st record, Zeppelin IV, "Highway to Hell" shit... almost any record by Zep or AC/DC. Toys in The Attic, Rocks so many! Did you ask my favorites!!!???
Will you play at Rocklahoma Festival or any other Festival this summer? John Allen: Sure man! I want to get out and tour tour tour! Whoever will have us! Or is that Whomever? I m a rock guy - whatever!
What can we expect from Charm City Devil´s debut album? John Allen: HIGH ENERGY RAWK! With a couple of songs that throw ya a little bit of a curve to keep it interesting!
Finally, what´s the best album of 2008? John Allen: Saints Of Los Angeles - Motley Crue!
