Jeff Cannata and/or Arc Angel were always a bit different when it came to AOR. With his almost mysterious style its hard to categorize his music. Too Progressive for AOR fans and maybe too AORish for Progressive lovers. I think he offers the perfect combination. Personally i still treasure his Arc Angel debut on the Portrait label out of 83 the most but i guess thats mainly because of nostalgic reasons. Meanwhile after Arc Angel he released "Images Of Forever" (88), "Watching The World" (93), "Tamorok" (02) and a Jasper Wrath compilation somewhere in between, which was his first band together with James Christian (97). A few months ago Jeff Cannata released his new opus titled "Mysterium Magnum", a perfect title for a great mysterious multi-instrumentalist such as him. Well we wanted to resolve the mystery a bit with asking Jeff the following questions ..... |

One night in 1997, I put on the radio station 89.1 The Point in Rochester, NY and heard a song called “Sullivan”. I was blown away and immediately jumped online to find out it was a band called Caroline’s Spine. I have been following the band and singer Jimmy Newquists solo albums since then. Caroline Spine has released 5 full length albums to date, “Monsoon,” “Attention Please,” “Overlooked,” “Captured” and recently underwent a lineup change and released their new album of 8 songs entitled “Work It Out.” It was an honor to Interview one of my heroes and inspirations Jimmy Newquist and talk about the new chapter in Caroline’s Spine. I just want to Thank Jimmy for taking the time to interview with me and Sandy Rizzo for making this possible. |

Five-piece band Cartel from Conyers, Georgia is favorite band on melodic.net and has had over 36 million MySpace plays as well their own MTV mini-series. Their new album CYCLES is an explosively vibrant and vital work, co-produced by Cartel and Ross Petersen and their best work up to date. We got the chance to ask the band a bunch of questions, enjoy. |

Caspian is a phenomenal instrumental band that everyone should know about. If you are into the instrumental likes of Sigur Ros, Explosions In The Sky, The Cast and The Break, Mogwai or The Calm Blue Sea, i would really recommend this group. As they will capture you from the very first listen. I will give props to my girlfriend for finding their MySpace page one night. She called me over to the computer to hear their music. That night, i couldn't wait to email their management to get the CD for a review. the band has just recently released a new album entitled "Tertia" and I had the pleasure to interview Phil from the band and if your unfamiliar with them, you should definitely check them out. www.myspace.com/caspianmusic |

The best place on the entire internet to buy independent music is without a doubt CD BABY. There are tons and more tons of great music to be discovered on this userfriendly musicpage. And its fast, funny and last but not least friendly to deal with the guys and girls working there.... So we thought it was about time to check out the "Messiah Of Independent Music" - the founder of CD BABY, Derek Sivers and ask him a few questions about his brilliant service. And NO - we dont get paid to tell you all this....

It doesn't take long to see that Civil Twilight is a band with faith. It takes faith to uproot and move halfway across the world, from Cape Town, South Africa all the way to Los Angeles, California. They did just that several years ago, and after toiling away in the states, releasing a highly successful independent album (which has now seen a major label re-release), they are finally receiving the recognition they deserve. With a sound that will draw comparisons to Coldplay and a live show delivered with fervor, they are hard to miss. We recently had the privilege of chatting with guitarist Andrew McKellar. |

What makes good Rock & Roll? While the music industry desperately tries to re-define what rock music should be, for Closure, the answer is simple: "We dont really give a shit" remarks singer/guitarist Brian Howes. In a world where whats "cool" comes and goes like Mariah Careys mood swings, Closure doesnt even care to watch from the sidelines. Closure plays what they want and how they want on their own terms.

Grand Illusion was one of the highest rated AOR bands in Scandinavia after creating classy albums such as "Ordinary Just Won´t Do" and "The Book Of How To Make It". Therefore it was a bit of a shock when the band broke up in 2005 without any signs of things going wrong.Anders Rydholm, leader and sole songwriter of Grand Illusion, explains his reasons for pulling the plug on the band and why he prefers to work with veteran AOR singer Sherwood Ball in their new band Code. |

Coheed and Cambria is known for their Progressive Rock and classic sound resembling Rush with a bigger and heavier sound. The band has been causing waves in the indie rock scene for may years now and have just released the final installment of their storytelling/rock albums entitled No World For Tomorrow. I had the chance to catch up with the busy guitarist of the band Travis for a quick interview where he informed us that this will not be the last you will hear from the group as a prequel album will be the next album from the band... |

If you thought the East Coast ran out of good promising new bands, you
thought wrong ! Because COPPERPOT is another living proof theres a new
wave of great talent coming up. What surprises me the most about all
recent East coast acts is the fact that theres more melody in their
songs than lets say 10 or 15 years ago. The NYC band MORE was and is
really interesting and so is this outfit called COPPERPOT from the same
region. It almost seems like were back to good basics like in the early
80s. I thought it would be really interesting to check these guys out,
and remember for the future ... my thoughts wont be wrong about
COPPERPOT !

Never thought i would see the day to hear the most excellent West Coast album that never was made in the 80s by a Swedish duo. For some this "Roc de Light" album by Corin & Edman may sound super clean, for others it will be the most perfect album of the last decade ! I have to confess that when im in the mood for pure West Coast it simply cant get any better than this result. Therefore i really cant pick out which song is the best on "Roc de Light" cos they all sound equally fine. This does actually sound like if Toto wouldve continued with Bobby Kimball on Fahrenheit in the style of David Packs "Anywhere You Go ..." album. And the best fact i can add to this is that the CD doesnt sound dated at all ! More than time to ask the friendly G?ran Edman the following questions ..... |

The progressive music of today is a bit different compared to the big classic bands of the 70?s like Yes,Rush,Genesis,Kansas and Pink Floyd to name a few.Ok,some of them are still around but not many new bands play in the same old school of these legendary bands. It?s the melody that comes first, there has to be a song in there and not just a whole lot a different parts....and that?s why I want to introduce you to this new band Cryptic Vision.Any progrock fan should own a copy of their debut "Moments of clarity"!
