Not only youngsters are found in the new Swedish bands that seem to pop up in a never ending stream. Also some slightly scarred veterans get together to found new acts, like this one: COLORSTONE. In the band we find FREDRIK BERGENGREN (ex-TIME GALLERY), JOHAN DAHLSTRÖM (ex-SILVER MOUNTAIN), OLLE NILSSON (ex-TRICKY TRACK) and JONAS SANDQUIST (ex-WASTELAND).
Stylewise we’re getting melodic hard rock with some funky vibes, as well as the occasional psychedelic touch. The CD contains no less than 17 songs and I’d say there are no fillers. On the other hand, the music style has its variations through the album. Still, it never gets too diverse. I think of LED ZEPPELIN in a few songs, like “Intoxicated” where it’s also easy to think of LENNY KRAVITZ or ELECTRIC BOYS. “Soul generator” is in the same vein, even with a JIMI HENDRIX spice to it. Anyone ever bought the very nice CD by Swedish band BORN ELECTRIC? Well, if you know their style you’ll like “Silverspoon”. This is quality hard rock from COLORSTONE and they even throw in a DVD with this release. The only think I would wish for until next album with this classy act would be more catchy choruses. The ones on this CD are not bad at all, but you don’t really go humming on the melodies when you’ve turned off your stereo. With stronger hook lines, this would have reached a 4 in grading.
