How many bands can sell over 300,000 copies of an independently released album? Well,Death cab for cutie from the small town of Bellingham (located between Seattle and Vancouver) managed to do that with their last album "Transatlanticism" and then signed with Atlantic records in 2004. Now on Aug.30,their major label debut "Plans" hits the stores and nothing will be the same coz this is the soundtrack of 2005 for every lover of extraordinary popmusic. You can call it enchanting, charming, poetic and beautiful at the same time - singer Benjamin Gibbard has that magic in his voice to take the songs up to a higher level. I really loved their last album but this one is even better,if Ben Folds went to a seance and wrote a bunch of songs with the ghost of Lennon and had Danish band Mew as a backup band - the result could very well be "Plans". Is "Different names of the same thing" the most beautiful song of the year?! Well it certainly is a contender.........so thank you DCFC,thank you!
