Technical progmetal can be quite boring if the musicians show off like they were in a virtuoso contest but it can on the other hand also be rather entertaining if there?s a certain song structure that keeps the music together. The international band Venturia has recorded such an album where the musicianship lies on the same level as Dream Theater, the band are made out of Europeans,American and Brazilian musicians with vocalist Marc Ferreira as the only name I have heard about before. Venturia was formed in 2000 by guitarist Charly Sahona and drummer Diego Rapacchietti, bassplayer Thomas James later joined the band together with Marc Ferreira and Lydia Robin who shares the vocal duties.
Just before the recordings in 2004, keyboardplayer Kevin Codfert completed the line up and in 2005 the album was finished and shortly after they signed a deal with Lion Music. The music can be described as symphonic metal with both progressive influences and pop melodies - imagine a mix between Frameshift, Ayreon and Dream Theater. It?s a joy to listen to the 6 minute long instrumental piece "Candle of hope", it sounds like they had a lot of fun when they tracked this wonderful progmetal song of the elite division.
