Review

Gavin DeGraw 's own words about his third album says a lot about it. "This album Reveal About the honesty my love of music," he says. "It isn't about the biggest, the Strongest, or the loudest. It's about simplicity in ITS purest form. It doesn't sound like the big machine. It sounds like "Where You go to escape the big machine."

"Free" is much more pared down than previous albums and this is probably how Gavin want to sound if he hadn’t a record company behind him. And can in some ways I agree with him when talking about the form of it. This is more a "real" album without a huge production that takes away a lot of personality. However, I think the qualities of the songs are a bit lower here on "Free" than before and that the pace is a bit too low. So you have to be in the right mood to really like this since I think become a bit boring after a few songs. But overall, this is still a stable release from this New York City talent that we will be hearing from for years to come. But I doubt that the next album will be as personal as this!

Did you know that?

Tantric began under the name C-14, a short name for radiocarbon, they soon changed to Tantric and were signed to Maverick Records that same year.
