Review

Andrew McNeice of the huge internet site MelodicRock.Com has started his own record label and recently released albums with Jimi Jamison/Jim Peterik, Harem Scarem and the Norwegian band Fenrik Lane. The majority of his readers might be jumping of joy whenever there is a new melodic rock/AOR album to be released so I was surprised to see Andrew signing Fenrik Lane that is more of modern rock/pop band. I´m pleased to hear that MelodicRock Records will broaden their artist roster of other quality genres, this Norwegian band doesn´t stand that far the AOR genre after all.

This is melodic rock even if it´s performed in a more modern way, Fenrik Lane formed in 1997 and released their debut "Lane of life" in 2005, their original singer was Kurt Nilsen who later won the Norwegian Idol as well as World Idol in 2003. Kurt sang on the band´s debut single "Shoe" from 1998, now the band is made up of Knut Glesnes - Vocals/Guitar, John Erik Soltvedt - Bass/Piano and Christer Unneland - Drums. Their new album "317" is produced by Eirik Gronnen (On the rise) and it contains 14 really good modern rock/pop songs including a nice cover of Rihanna´s "Russian Roulette" (check the video on youtube). Why not download the free EP with tracks from this strong album at melodicrock.com, you might be a fan just like me. For fans of Poets of the fall, Kick the Kangaroo, Surfact

Hi. Downloaded the free EP at MRR a month ago. Really surprised over how good it was, so I was curious for more. Got some U2/Coldplay/Green Day elements in there. The are 2-3 songs that did not hit me, so I won`t rate it 5, but overall there are 10-11 great tracks on this album, especially Megalomania, Cover Your Eyes, Runaway car and of course the Rihanna cover. That`s AWESOME!!- Surprisingly good signing by MRR.

Did you know that?

DEFAULT used to be called "The Fallout" which in turn, became the title of their album.
