Review

Watching Over You is the 4th album from British Shadowman and they continue to deliver classy stuff. Their new album continues where the previous album Ghost In The Mirror (2008) ended. Yes, Steve Overland (FM), Steve Morris (Heartland) has recorded a very good album together with Thunder´s rhythm section Chris Childs and Harry James. This is a nice slice of British AOR/melodic rock with elements of FM, Heartland and Thunder. Steve sings outstanding as always and I have to admit that Steve Morris has never sounded better with his guitar. He gets a chance to deliver some of his heaviest riffs for a long time and I like it.

The song material is very even with a couple of standout tracks. The opener Across The Universe is a great starter with lovely melodies and it runs to a strong chorus with influences from Steve’s solo albums. On Renegade, Steve plays some riffantastic guitars and must be one of the rockiest songs they ever recorded with a fantastic pre-chorus and a powerful chorus. Cry is a soulful ballad where Steve sings his heart out, stunning stuff. Suzanne is a nice AOR-song with good harmonies in the chorus. Waiting For A Miracle sounds like a track from the latest FM album with a catchy chorus. Stop Breaking This Heart Of Mine is the best song of the album with a strong AOR-chorus with Heartland meets FM feel over it. Justify is filled with strong melodic riffs, hooklines and a huge chorus. Shadowman´s new album is a damn good one and if you like your AOR music British way, then don’t hesitate to check out Shadowman.
