Anticipation

There has been a lot of good releases so far this year, yet there are more to come. I thought I should give you an update on my most anticipated releases scheduled during 2009.

Alberta Cross - Broken Side of Time. I got an early promo of this one and I absolutely loved it. Now I´m curious to see if the become as big as I predict/hope.

Default - TBA. The songs i´ve heard so far just makes me want to hear more!

30 Seconds to Mars - This is War. I´m really looking forward to new music from 30STM. Hopefully they will take a step back towards their sound of the first album.

Chevelle - Sci-fi Crimes. The single Jars sounds fantastic, I really hope the rest of the album can keep up.

Paramore - Brand New Eyes. There is something about Hayley Williams´ voice that makes me go back to Riot! over and over again. Hopefully this new album brings more excellent tunes.

Creed - Full Circle. I´m guessing you all have heard Overcome by now. I just want to see if the old Creed can keep up with Alter Bridge. This could really be amazing or terrible, time will tell.

Others worth mentioning, Howie Day, Thrice, Switchfoot and Will Hoge.

There are lots of promising album on they way as you can see, let´s hope that there are more expectations met than there is letdowns.

Here is what I´m spinning at the moment!

JR Richards - A Beautiful End. THE best album of the year, i can´t and won´t stop listening to this.

No Love Lost - s/t. Some songs on here are spectacular, especially "Dirty Girl" and "Tell Me".

Jonah Smith - Lights On. A solid folk/pop/roots album well worth checking out.

Ben´s Brother - Battling Giants. Even better than the debut album and maybe the 2nd best album of the year.

The Black Crowes - Warpaint. An underestimated album, some cool bluesy rock songs on here.

Christopher Jak - Applause of the Rain. Very good album, soft, touching songs and a great voice.

Other than that we have:

Alberta Cross - Broken Side of Time
Augustana - All the Stars and Boulevards
Story of the Year - The Black Swan

There are plenty of more albums spinning of course, my stereo is never silent =)

I´ll post more as we go, now check these out if you haven´t already!

Dream Theater
When an interview opportunity with a band like Dream Theater show up, you do not want to pass it up. Melodic.net sent long-time Dream Theater fan Kjell-Åke Nilsson to do the honours at the bands show in Stockholm, Sweden. Here is his story: He is not known for his sheer flamboyance á la David Lee Roth, or for wearing outlandish attire like Gene Simmons, but instead for providing a consistent and recognizable voice through the years with one of the most influential bands in progressive metal. I have read things on the web (usually written in all upper-case, you get the picture...) about him being the weak spot in the band. Well, clear your throats, spot-faced teenagers with low social skills, and get ready to sing along with John Myung´s bass cascades. Go figure. While Mike Portnoy and John Petrucci may write most of the songs, somebody needs to interpret and perform the lyrics, as the main song writers tend to be kinda busy doing their thing during the gigs... And to me, this man does it well. And if his 18-year stamina as lead singer of Dream Theater does not instill respect for the man, I don´t know what will. So, for the sake of objectivity, well there is very little of that. I´m a fan. Live with it. I am about to interview him about their current Progressive Nation Tour, about the band of course, but even more so about his own approach to his role as a vocalist. The interview turned out to be more of a conversation with a soft-spoken and thoughtful man. I give you: Mr. James LaBrie! ...read more
