Backwater was formed in 1997 and initially rehearsals took place in the EFS church in Lidk?ping who also arranged concerts. This really helped us come along and make ourselves a name locally, but after about a year we wanted to go on our own as we found the rehearsal studio we?ve used to this date.

Anders Torstensson joined the band in 1998 and Thomas Kihlberg in 2005. And after a couple of different constellations the members now are

The music of Backwater has changed a lot through the years. Our early material can be described as soft rock but as time has passed our influences and preferences have changed and now the sound is more of heavy, downtuned melodious rock, influenced by bands like Sevendust, Godsmack, Meshuggah, etc.
