Over the last two decades, Jim Schmidt has accumulated an impressive resume of production experience in the music and film industries. An accomplished musician, Mr. Schmidt began his career in the entertainment industry as a vocalist, touring the world with The Continentals. Performing turned to conducting at age 18, then to studio vocals and record producing. He produced his first arena concert event in Rotterdam, Holland, at the age of 19. He released his first solo recording, Something Right, in 1982, at the age of 21, and has since released two more: Innermission in 1987, and New Frontier in 2000. He played the lead role of Benjamin in the DOVE Award-winning musical Dreamer. As Vice President of International Development for The Continentals, he is credited with having developed youth performing groups in fifteen countries, and has produced or co-produced more than 20 albums in six languages. In addition, he authored the organizational Charter documents governing the operation of eight Continental offices worldwide.Known for his easy-going command of the stage, he has played emcee to more than three thousand live events worldwide. He shows evidence in his passport of having traveled to more than 60 countries, and counts his third-world experiences as being some of his most rewarding. After working with World Vision in East and West Africa in 1985, Mr. Schmidt raised more than $750,000 in the U.S. for African famine relief.Jim’s involvement with movie making goes back two decades as well. In front of the camera, in 1980, he starred in a landmark film in the inspirational film industry, Super Christian, written and directed by his brother, John. After appearing in its’ sequel, he played lead roles in two additional films, including The Wait of The World, for which he won the 1986 ICVM Crown Award for Best Actor in a Drama.It is behind the camera, as Producer, that Mr. Schmidt seems to have found his real niche. At his brothers’ prodding, Jim put on the hat of Associate Producer for his first feature, THE CLIMB (Ned Vaughn, Jason George, Dabney Coleman, Clifton Davis), produced by Dean River Productions. Immediately following this, having fallen in love with producing, Jim wrote and produced the documentary, MOUNTAIN OF FIRE: The Search For The True Mount Sinai, the remarkable true story of two adventurers who set out to find the true Biblical Mt. Sinai within the forbidden desert of Saudi Arabia.Jim co-produced again on BOBBY JONES: STROKE OF GENIUS, based on the life of legendary amateur, and some say the greatest, golfer Bobby Jones. The film stars Jim Caviezel as Bobby Jones, Claire Forlani, Jeremy Northam, Malcolm McDowell and Aidan Quinn, and was released theatrically, nationwide on April 30, 2004. Mr. Schmidt has optioned several historic properties, and is currently in discussions with major Studios to bring them to the big screen. Among the stories: THE LIBERATION OF ONE (Harcourt), by Romuald Spasowski, the highest ranking Communist official ever to defect to the west; and MOUNTAIN OF FIRE, the action/adventure feature version of the documentary, based on the books by the two intrepid explorers: The Mountain of God (Broadman & Holman) by Bob Cornuke, and The Mountain of Moses (CTI) by Larry Williams. Mr. Schmidt also holds the option on the story most likely to succeed It’s A Wonderful Life as the all-time Christmas classic champion. EPIPHANY (Zondervan), written by Paul McCusker, is a charming, uplifting tale that shows how the love of family is able to guide us to the truth and to ultimate peace with ourselves. Dabney Coleman is set to lead the ensemble cast. Jim spent three months during Spring 2011 in Bangkok, Thailand, producing Trade Of Innocents, set for a January 2012 theatrical release.Mr. Schmidt established Jim Schmidt Entertainment in 2003, and he head of Development for Dean River Productions.  He resides in Bakersfield, CA, close to the Studios of Hollywood, but far enough away to have a real life with Karen, his wife of twenty five years, and their three children.
