Uriah Heep and Spiders From Mars bassist Trevor Bolder has died from cancer, aged 62.
Bolder joined David Bowie's backing band in 1971, appearing on classic albums including Hunky Dory and Aladdin Sane. He went on to join Uriah Heep five years later and only stopped playing with the band a few months ago, due to his poor health.
Tributes were paid to him as a "world-class" rock musician.
A statement from Uriah Heep said: "It is with great sadness that Uriah Heep announce the passing of our friend the amazing Trevor Bolder, who has passed away after his long fight with cancer.Trevor was an all-time great, one of the outstanding musicians of his generation, and one of the finest and most influential bass players that Britain ever produced. His long-time membership of Uriah Heep brought the band's music, and Trevor's virtuosity and enthusiasm, to hundreds of thousands of fans across the world. He joined the band in 1976 and, barring one short break, was a fixture until his ill health forced him to take a step back early this year.Prior to joining Heep he was a founder and ever-present member of David Bowie's legendary Spiders From Mars band, performing on all of their key albums and at countless shows. He also performed with Wishbone Ash, Cybernauts and The Rats."
Uriah Heeplead guitarist Mick Box said: "Trevor was a world-class bass player, singer and songwriter, and more importantly a world-class friend. He will be sadly missed by family, friends and rock fans all over the world. We are all numb to the core."
Frontiers Records wishes to express enormous sadness for this loss and sends heartfelt condolences to the family and the band.

THE ANSWER are set to return in 2013 with a new album and full UK and European tour. Keeping the beacon of Irish rock music well and truly alight, THE ANSWER have consistently delivered commercial, and critically acclaimed albums. The band have also spent the last eight years touring the world and proving themselves to be an incendiary live act- spending almost two years as main support to AC/DC and playing to over 2 million people, performing festivals across the globe and also supporting the likes of The Rolling Stones, Whitesnake and Wolfmother as well as countless headline tours. Since releasing their third studio album in late 2011, the band instigated a major shake up in their circumstances and with new management, live booking agents and record label on board, late 2012 saw them enter the studio with ex Little Angels vocalist Toby Jepson at the production helm. The new record, "New Horizon" will be their fourth studio album and with mixes from rock icon Mike Fraser (AC/DC, Metallica), the new album will be released on September 30th 2013 through label Napalm Records GmbH. The band were also honoured and privileged that the late Storm Thorgerson and his team saw fit to design the artwork for the new album and Storm was working on final ideas for the album cover just before his sad passing. The Downpatrick quartet consists of Cormac Neeson (vocals), Paul Mahon (guitar), Micky Waters (bass) and James Heatley (drums). Cormac Neeson: "We're back and we're back in a big way. Our love for rock 'n' roll is still as fresh as a skinny dip in the Lagan (that's the big river that runs through Belfast!) and we really believe that this is by far and away our best album to date. We can't wait to get out and play it live!" The band are set to play their first headline dates since March 2012, undertaking a full 40 date European tour through October and November 2013. Australia’s Airbourne have premiered an exclusive stream of their new album Black Dog Barking, exclusively over at Revolver Magazine. The album, which will be released May 21st via Roadrunner Records, was produced by Brian Howes and features the lead single “Live It Up.” Hailing from Warrnambool, a small drinking town on the southwestern coast of Victoria, Australia, Airbourne has steadily gained an immense following with their explosive live shows and main stage festival appearances. “A lot of thought and effort has gone into this record not only by the band, but by the production crew who worked countless hours, seven days a week, even through Christmas and New Year’s Eve to achieve the best possible performances, backed by real undying tones. Now we’re handing it over to you… so crank it up, crack a beer and stick some rock ‘n’ roll in your ear,” said the band.
