Marco Mendoza´s list of bands/artists he has worked with is very very long and you have seen his name with Whitesnake, Blue Murder, Soul Sirkus, Ozzy Osbourne and Ted Nugent to name some. My first thought was that his debut solo album would be a boring affair with weak songs but I was totally wrong. He and Richie Kotzen (Mr. Big) has come up with a very strong melodic rock album with nice groove and funky parts but most important they do it with lots of melodies. I could never in my dreams think that Marco had this strong voice that he delivers on this album, he sounds like a mixture of Glenn Hughes meets Jean Beauvoir(Crown Of Thorns) and Eric Martin(Mr. Big). The album is in the same alley as the latest albums with Glenn Hughes and Richie Kotzen but I have to say that this sounds better. All the songs are not good there´s couple of fillers that don´t hold but big part of the album is filled with good groovy melodic (hard)rock songs. There´s couple of songs that shines out more than the rest. The mid-tempo rocker Lettin´ Go is filled with strong melodies and a good chorus. Let The Sun Shine is stunning. It´s a shame that they haven´t come up with more tracks in this calibre because it´s filled with strong melodies with hooks and a brilliant chorus. Best song of the album. Broken is a straight ahead rocker with heavy riffs and this song rocks. Marco has been helped out by some friends such as Steve Lukather(Toto), Ted Nugent, Doug Aldrich(Whitesnake) on guitars and Tommy Aldridge(Whitesnake) on drums. The production has been handled by Richie Kotzen and he done a great job. So just check out this debut album from a great bass player and a good singer because this will for sure surprise many.
