Review

"Hydroplane" is Kristin Mooney´s 3rd cd, her first album "Living alone" was released in 1998 and 6 years later she returned with a self titled album in 2004.
Her songs can be described as a mix between Stevie Nicks and Aimee Mann, what strikes me first is that Kristin is such a great singer and storyteller.
Kristin´s voice was often heard on the CBS drama "Judging Amy" with music written and performed by longtime collaborator Peter Himmelman.
There´s a great line up musicians on this album where we find names like Jay Bellerose - Drums (Robert Plant/Alison Krause), Jennifer Condos - Bass (Ryan Adams), Eric Heywood - Guitar (Son Volt) and Patrick Warren - Keyboards (Fiona Apple).
On the bluesy "In the grass" Kristin sounds like a female Eric Clapton while "Echo lake" is a moody country tune, the opening track "As we fly" could be a lost Fleetwood Mac song and I prefer this side of the album more than the country flavored songs.
There is always a place for good music and Kristin Mooney has found her place in my collection for sure.
