Review

After James Dewees last release Songs Not to Get Married To, a brief stint as a member of New Found Glory and the subsequent breakup of The Get Up Kids in 2005, Reggie and the Full Effect started touring with bands such as Alkaline Trio, My Chemical Romance, and Hellogoodbye. Once the tour supporting Hellogoodbye ended in the fall of November 2006, James began supporting My Chemical Romance as their touring keyboardist. Now back to his own music. The latest album on Vagrant Records, Last Stop: Crappy Town is an off-the-wall experience. Everything from Screaming to mellow pop/rock to really really distorted guitars.

Hmmm... Where do I even start? I mean its cool to a certain degree. The album opens with screamo rock then track 2 turns the complete opposite to clean chorus delayed guitars and a mellow emo-ish style then to a weird electronic mesh of instruments. Ok it was a little much for me to handle as well. But I guess thats what you get when all your track titles are street names and some are one letter for that matter, G, Smith and 9th, L, J, V, etc. There are some really cool tunes admist the mess of music in between. The reason i cant give this more stars is simply because the music is all over the place but as I write this I ponder giving it more stars because of the style factor. Fans of Thursday, My Chemical Romance, and some other styles I can really think of right now, may or may not want to check out this album. Vagrant records spits out a new array of tunes on this one and simply gets better when thinking about it after listening. Give it a chance.

Did you know that?

The name "Minus the Bear" comes from an in-joke among the band members, referring to the 70´s television program, B. J. and the Bear. "A friend of the band had gone on a date,” explains singer-guitarist Jake Snider, "and one of us asked him afterwards how the date went. Our friend said, ´You know that TV show from the ´70s B.J. and The Bear? It was like that... minus The Bear.´ That’s the straight truth."
