Some of you may be tired of the phrase “power trio”, but I feel it’s time to use it here. This French 3-piece call themselves ALIVE INC. I found a pile of stuff that I had put aside and forgotten about, and in this pile of CD’s I found this promo. And man – was I sad I hadn’t found it earlier??? You’re in for a shock here.

ALIVE INC. is the first band I’ve heard in many years that sound a lot like the British phenomenal band BE SHARP. The strength of both these bands is the mix of rock, AOR, r’n’b, hard rock and more – all into unique melodic rock songs with an edge you seldom hear. I also think a little of another British band, namely THE KICK. I highly recommend “My Love” which could easily have been on the BE SHARP album “Play this”. This r’n’b flavoured rock/AOR is of such high class it’s almost unbelievable! The guitar solo from lead vocalist Sebastien Lanceau is AWESOME. Completely awesome – and it’s only one of many incredible solos of his. Joe Satriani or even Steve Vai wouldn’t have done it better. I am not exaggerating. I once again need to underline the wonderful mix of styles here; try out “My hate for you’s worth all” with its slightly punky attitude, but still truly melodic with an AOR and rock costume.

There’s nothing bad to find here. Afraid that Sebastien will have a French accent in the English lyrics? Nah, not a sign of it. This one’s a sure buy.

Did you know that?

Most of the sounds on Prince´s "Sign O´ The Times" single came from the stock library that came w/ the ´80s sampler, the Fairlight CMI.
