Review

Chris Shiflett and the Dead Peasants is the side project of, well, Chris Shiflett, mostly known from Foo Fighters. If you are expecting an album similar to the Foos you are in for disappointment. This album is filled with Americana/Country influenced rock songs. It is a step away from the normal duties similar to Matt Davies from Funeral For a Friend when he plays in The Secret Show although this is more straightforward and less country.

Shiflett is a pretty good singer, better than I expected and some of the songs are real catchy. I especially like God Damn, which is a really good song. On some songs it gets a little bit too much country for me but overall this was a nice little surprise. Shiflett shows that he has a big bag of talent to pick from as this is a far cry from his punk rock days and also Foo Fighters days.

To conclude, this is an all right album with one standout track. Still, I cannot help but wonder if there will be more music from this band. Only time will tell I guess, but this is a debut that was a bit of a surprise to me. I must however say that I prefer Foo Fighters over this.

Did you know that?

Tantric began under the name C-14, a short name for radiocarbon, they soon changed to Tantric and were signed to Maverick Records that same year.
