Swedish punk rockers Neverstore has just released their third album. Melodic.net got the chance to ask them a couple of questions about it and why you should buy a t-shirt from them. Read on...
Hey Guys, thanks for taking the time to do this. Maybe you can start by telling us who Neverstore are. What is your story? Is there a story behind the name? We formed the band in September 2000 which means that we have been a band for almost 10 years. (Insane...) We play punk/rock and intend to do so for a long time. We came up with the name before the first show and it has stuck since. You probably get this all the time now but, tell us about the T-shirt offer for the new album, that sounds like a cool thing. We wanted to do something different with this album so we released it as both a ordinary album and as a Eco-t-shirt. If you buy the t-shirt you'll get the album as a download and a tree will be planted in the area around the Victoria Lake in Africa. We're working together with Vi-Skogen with this project. If you're old school you can get the regular album. It's up to you. I heard you airing some new songs when you were on the Swedish radio show P3 Live. What can we expect from the new album? What will be the major differences from the last album? I think this album is a little bit harder and faster. We produced it ourselves (except the song Summer which we recorded in LA with Deryck Whibely of Sum 41 as producer) this time and I believe we managed to keep the energy from the live shows on the album. My thoughts so far are that the new album seems more focused than before. Do you agree? How would you say that you have developed over your three albums? We have played a lot of shows over the past couple of years which have made us alot better at playing. I also think our song writing has improved over the years. We didn't have a deadline when we wrote this album and because of that we didn't have any pressure at all. What is the "Age of Hysteria"? People worry about what to wear and how to act instead of doing their own thing. People hide in their homes afraid of their neighbors, Media make a lot of money out of peoples fear and governments can go to war based on lack of knowledge of their own people. We live in the age of hysteria. What does the process look like when you create your songs? What inspire you? Me or Jacob usually comes up with an idea and then we try it out in the rehearsal room. The music and melody comes first and when we got that right we start writing lyrics. Some songs are done in 10 minutes and some takes forever... Do you have any favorite song/s off the new album? They are all my favorites in some way but right now I really enjoy playing Undone. Among the bands you toured with, which one is the wildest? I have to say Backyard Babies. But I heard that they have shaped up now. Fill us in on a crazy story from the road! We played at a festival in Lithuania near the Belarus border in 2009. Close to the festival we where stopped by Belarus military that looked thru our car and checked our id. That was unexpected but the show was great! Are there any bands you dream of going on tour with? We have already toured with so many great bands but I wouldn't mind going on a tour with Nofx or Rancid. I have heard people labeling you guys both the Blink182 and Greenday of Sweden. Do you think those nicknames suit you? If not, who would you say are your biggest influences? Of course we're influenced by those bands but also by a bunch of other bands. We got into punk/rock in the mid 90´s and back then we listened to bands like Offspring, Mxpx and Millencolin. Let's say me and my friends want to become a famous rock band, could you give us any tips on how to succeed? The best tip I can give you is to never give up and don't listen to people telling you that you should. Just do what you believe in and you'll make it. It's 2010 now, will this be the year of Neverstore? We hope so! At least we're gonna have a good time touring and meeting people. In your opinion, Is rock'n'roll dead? Don't know, but punk rock isn't! Thank you guys, all the best for the new album. If you come to Jönköping on tour, the first round is on me!
