Our Lady Peace has recorded at least 16 or 17 songs for their new album and plan to get together for their next session at the end of July.

Since February 2007, the band has been working on their first studio album since their 2005 release Healthy in Paranoid Times. According to frontman Raine Maida, the new album is "huge" and will be a "proper rock album again"—featuring a return to the raw originality of the band's first album Naveed, though a "little more mature".

With Arnold Lanni having produced the band's first four studio albums, and Bob Rock having produced their last two offerings, vocalist Raine Maida is reportedly the sole producer of their seventh release, noting how he's excited to "engineer and produce and not have anybody intrude on sessions".

On July 5 guitarist Steve Mazur posted on the band's MySpace blog, noting: "Many songs are finished, we're just writing more now 'cause we're having a good time doing it. So we figure why not just keep going until we feel that we're out of juice". According to Mazur, the album title and artwork are also in discussion.

A song from the album—titled "Dreamland"—was performed at the 2008 Atlantic Superstore Festival of Lights in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island on June 29.

-well, I don't think they'll be able to get that Naveed sound back. Mike Turner was a huge part of that sound. Steve Mazur is a great guitarist, but Mike had that edge that made OLP what they were. You'll notice that Mike Turner is credited in the better songs on Gravity. Healthy in Paranoid Times was a good album... but nothing compared to their previous work. Not even close.

-Sweet. Can't wait to hear the new album. I was at their concert in PEI and the new song "Dreamland" was pretty sick.

-A fave band that always delivers great music. Last two albums was a little uninspiring and boring, to safe in my opinion. Let's hope more edge on their next effort....

-Glad to see these guys back... Last album was ok looking for some more real OLP sounding stuff!
