Jacob?s Road hails from northwest Tennessee and was formed in March 2003. And that they have just been around for a year is not something you can hear when you listen to the duo consisting of Mark Robey and Carrie Coffey, as it sounds professional all the way through. Carrie?s voice is quite close to Tiffany Arbuckle from Plumb mixed with a softer edge ala Natalie Merchant and Mark?s voice is somewhere around Michael Johnston in Smalltown Poets and Keith Kane in Vertical Horizon. And these names also explain where we can place the duo musically. The opening track ?Scream? is one nice tune, and third out, the Alanis Morrisette smelling ?Run Away? is another one worth mentioning. The production signed by the unknown to me Samuel Mizel is solid, even if a major label budget producer like Glen Ballard or David Bendeth would have put an extra edge to the sound. Im not saying the production is bad. It?s not, but they could have squeezed out a few more percent of the sound. The vocals are a split between Mark and Carrie and that is something I like, as they?re both good vocalists. And when they split the vocal duties like in fifth out, the bombastic ?All That You Are?, it also gives them a unique touch. There are other songs worth mentioning as well like ?Chriss Song? which has a nice refrain and edge, but I suggest you take a listen yourself at CD BABY and see what you think for yourself. I wouldn?t be surprised if they would be signed to a major label, because they have the qualities for it. And as I said, with that sort of production-budget?
