Cry Holy is a christian unit from USA and they released a very good independent debut album back in 2001. Now they are back with a brand new album and a new label called Metal Mayhem. Cry Holy plays 80s AOR with lots of harmonies and catchy songs in the veins of Faith Nation, Halo, Savannah and Allies. They don?t reach up to the same level as the mentioned bands but this is a very promising new act that delivers good stuff. On this new album they have re-recorded 3 songs from their debut album Ten From Two called Masquerade Ball, History and I Wanna Be Free. Those songs are the best ones on this album and here they show that they can write strong AOR songs.
Out of the new songs I have to say that the titeltrack is the strongest with classy 80s keyboards and filled with strong hooklines. The chorus is a winner with nice riffs, melodies and strong background vocals. There is not many fillers but the songs My Lord and Everlasting Love(boring acoustic song) don?t reach the same level as the strongest songs on the album. Many Christian AOR-bands has manage to come up with high-class ballads and so is the case with Cry Holy. Their Strangers To This World is great with a pompish part in the middle of the song.
The 2nd album from these AOR-rockers is nice with many good songs. This is a very even album with few fillers and if you don?t own the debut album then you get even more for your money. One thing on AlienNation that puts down the grade a bit is the production(the drums are sounding a bit weak) that I feel is not top-notch but still much better than many other releases in this genre.

The Goo Goo Dolls initially consisted of John Rzeznik (vocals, guitar), Robby Takac (vocals, bass guitar) and George Tutuska (drums, percussion). While Takac and Tutuska had been long-time friends in school, Rzeznik was playing in the band The Beaumonts, with Takac’s cousin. The three founded the band under the name "Sex Maggots". However, when a club owner booked the band, he requested they change the name, as the local newspaper could not print their current name. The trio picked the current name out of a True Detective ad for a toy called a Goo Goo Doll.
