- Hey ?yall,
It?s Dean, the subject of the mediocre review for "The Light Of Reason". I just wanted to say that P?r Winberg is a great guy, and I trust his judgement. I read his reviews all of the time and I think he is generous if anything and if he says I dropped the ball, I have to consider that he is right. In my defense, I am new at producing, I never wanted to even know how to use pro-tools, but time and budget constraints have led me to become a studio owner and producer as well as a songwriter, guitar player, bassist and drummer (and programmer).
The CD "The Light Of Reason" is an old album that should have been released in 2000 but it was plagued with troubles from the start. I brought it to a friend (Craig Lozowick) to mix a few songs at Desmond Child?s studio in Miami, I ended up re-tracking vocals on all of the tracks and also some guitars and keyboards. When I moved to Nashville in 2002 it still wasn?t finished and I was pissed at my friend. THEN he lost the hard drive that had all of the songs on it when Desmond closed the studio and moved to L.A.
Back-up tapes were eventually found for much of the stuff but I had to re-track and mix most of the songs in my tracking studio. By now the material was dated, I was in a foul mood about the whole project (which I thought was lost forever), and I really couldn?t tell if it was any good anymore. Some of the files could not be recovered and I had no choice but to use Craig?s rough mixes on about half of the CD. Mixes I wasn?t happy with in 2002 and less so now.
I am not making excuses, I really couldn?t tell what the heck I had anymore and I have written so much music since then, I didn?t care about this material as much as I used to.
I am working on something new which I will send to P?r for review in 2007. All I can do is hope that he likes it.
