One year after their debut "Violince", Oppera releases the self titled follow up which is definitely more rocking with a more basic rock sound compared to the dance-able funk on the first album.
Producer and multi musician Michael Mozart has created a more naked sound on this album that might suit the songs better live coz we?re dealing with the classic rock formula of drums/bass/guitar here.
I think it?s a shame that Mozart decided on using less keyboards and classical arrangements on this album coz that was an important part of their original sound.
Martika still puts her best effort into her singing which is the best thing about this 12 track album, Mozart?s guitarplaying is as awesome as it was on the first album but where?s the bass? I think it?s too low in the mix - I want more power.
However, Oppera the 2005 version is still good but I prefer "Violince" for the production - if you?re into the Mothers Finest kinda funkrock, then this album will be your cup of tea.
