A new all-girl metal band has entered the scene: HYSTERICA from Stockholm, Sweden. These girls deliver right-in-your-face melodic metal, and pretty good stuff too. One of my colleagues at Sweden Rock Magazine utterly dismissed this 5-piece recently, but I must say that was not a fair review at all. Sure, there are improvements to be made in the years to come, but this is more than a decent album.
Stylewise it is a bit mixed, so there are songs that will attract fans of ACCEPT as well as IRON MAIDEN, but still I wouldn't say these girls sound like them. Also, it gets different when there's a girl singing. Anni De Vil is the name and she's like an angry LITA FORD voicewise. In the softer moment the songs may resemble some of the heavier LAMBRETTA stuff, but not even that is a fully accurate description. I guess the best thing for you would be to listen for yourselves. Sometimes De Vil's voice gets too thin, where the rhythm playing and the production is rich and powerful. This is good, and it's nice with a girl singing metal for a change. The members produced this CD themselves, but it was all recorded and mixed by the brothers Tommy and Peter (Pain) Tägtgren.
