Mr.Big has reunited and gives their fans the new live double CD/DVD "Back to Budokan" on Oct 16, the band sound reborn and you can tell they are having lots of fun on stage. The setlist is made up of songs only from the Paul Gilbert catalogue with the band which is understandable but there are in fact a few good tunes on their albums with guitarist Richie Kotzen that could've been included in the show instead of the covers of "Shyboy" (David Lee Roth), "Baba O Riley" (The Who) and "Smoke on the water" (Deep Purple).
I hope they won't overlook "Get over it" from 2000 and "Actual size" the next time they record a live album and live albums are something of a specialty for Mr.Big, there are 7 live albums available with the band and the majority of these songs have been done before so no surprises here. Ofcourse we get the usual solo masturbation which is tiresome, I thought it was enough to hear Sheehan and Gilbert being technical in the songs but ohno - they just gotta show their individual skills.
I am impressed by the harmony vocals from all four in the band and that's the best thing about "Back to Budokan", the few highlights are the amazing live version of "Stay together" and the new studio track "Next time around" which also is their new single. Why did they have to do a studio cover of Argent's "Hold your head up"? I thought it was enough covers already.
