Cyrenic is the brainchild of Brian Zuckerman, he wrote, recorded and produced the songs on this album. Here we are treated to a bunch of atmospheric rock songs with an industrial, almost gothic influence. There are a lot of pianos in these songs and the sound actually reminds me of Paradise Lost's record One Second in some songs. There are also hints of bands like Skillet and Breaking Benjamin in the music of Cyrenic. The best songs on here according to me are the slower songs. This is where Zuckerman's voice gets enough space to shine. I feel that his voice drowns out when there are too many layers and effects in the music and that is a shame because on songs like "To Have and To Hold" it really shines. There are however too few song where that happens. Opening "Lullaby" is another one and I like how that song starts off slowly just to build up into a full on rock song. That structure has been used before but I still like it for that song.
Apart from the things mentioned above, I feel that the production is not as good as it could have been. It is not bad, it just feels independently produced. Still, check this album out if you want some cool riffs and some interesting music that is a bit different to what you hear on the radio. It is a pretty good album after all!
